The Many Faces of Mo.......DJ Mo Rada Unveiled!
Thursday, October 4, 2007 FOR FETTY BU!!! ;-)
Mo knows what he likes and what he doesn't and so, when he produces a new song it's with the understanding that it is heat and cleverly executed! Don't get me wrong, Mo loves to goof around and his MySpace page is filled with comedy and satire. The bulletins that he posts on MySpace are always hillarious and definitely, "out in left field", which is where Mo would prefer to stay. He is happy doing his own thing and what you see is what you get. Mo....is genuine and chooses to promote his talent and not his image. I would often bug Mo in the past, about why he always chose to use his childhood picture as his MySpace default image versus a current picture. His response best sums up Mo for me...the essence of his response was that he wasn't interested in getting a fan base based on looks, but rather he was legitimately concerned with networking with people who were fun but serious about music! Do I love this guy? "Juss A Lil Bit". Am I biased? Yeah, I guess I am... "Are ya Feelin Da Love" people? Do I have a huge collection of Mo's mashes in my iTunes library? No, actually. For Mo, it's not about volume... it's about quality. He told me once that whenever he does a mash up, he needs to personally enjoy it - get psyched up about it, and he knows before he's finished, if it's going to come out really great. If he's not "feel'in it"... he ain't "mash'in it". For Mo's nuggets of gold, you've got to be patient... his juice really is worth the squeeze!
To me, Mo seems kind of like 'the guy next door'. Approachable, laid back, talented and artistic, and funny as hell. This is a guy I could hang out with,...shoot the 'breeze' with,... and beg masterpieces from -- Oh! Did I say that outloud?? ; D If you haven't already taken a listen to his 'Live From Jerzey' set, you are missing out, folks! Over an hour of mash'in perfection, and when he changes it up, he "Changes It Right"! Hearing that magic live in the club would be phenomenal. I'd really like to see Mo Rada burn up a dj booth at our local nightclub, Aura, in the near future, or any hot club in San Fran, or San Jose, for that matter. How to make that happen? I'm not sure... but I think it would do great things for his career, bringing him out to the West Coast to rock out with all of us!! Come out to Cali and party with us, Mo! There'll be NO "Short Short Dance", with you around... We're all "Fallin Tipsy" over your mash'in style DJ Mo Rada!
Can he "Turn the Beat"? You betta believe it!!
DJ Mo Rada's Bio
New Jersey resident DJ Mo Rada started spinning the nightlife scene in the summer of 2004. After appearing for numerous guest spots he landed his first residency at the notorious “Wet Thursday’s” party @ Poor Billy’s. Here he got to spin along side House music legend Anthony Acid. The established producer inspired Mo to broaden his taste in music, to think outside the box. After picking up the necessary experience to read crowds and create energetic atmospheres, Mo Rada began to develop his own style.
Armed with basic DJ experience and a drive for success, Mo landed a few more residencies and big guest spots over the year of 2005. Platinum in New Brunswick and Dreemz in Philadelphia were his biggest mentions. Spinning in different city’s exposed Mo to a variety of people from different cultures and musical tastes. This changed his outlook on music and helped expose his talent. In the summer of 2006, the young ambitious DJ paid a memorable visit to Atlantic City. Mo and a few friends got to see Crooklyn Clan's DJ Sizzahandz spin at a local AC nightclub. He was blown away. This was the biggest inspiration thus far in Mo Rada’s career. Seeing Siz work his magic motivated Mo to re-invent himself. Since then he has gotten into the production scene making various mixes and mash-ups. Most importantly, Mo Rada adopted the ‘Hollywood’ DJ format mixing anything you can and can’t think of. Along with all of the popular commercial music, he’s got a knack for dropping tracks you would never think to hear at a dance club that the crowds love. Classic Rock, Disco, 80’s. The only music format Mo Rada is concerned with is “coming out of left field.”
His newly adopted style eventually granted him exposure to the Crooklyn Clan. In October 2006, Mo’s mixes and mash-ups were posted on CrooklynClan.net where they are now available to the public for purchase. His productions are amongst some of the most creative minds in the mash-up game, especially his big inspiration, DJ Sizzahandz.

1. What inspired you to pick your DJ your name?
Well, growing up all my friends would call me by my last name, Marotta. No one would ever pronounce it right. Eventually they all came up with their own pronunciation, Mo Rada.
2. What kind of music do you like to spin?
I only like to spin commercial music when the place is jumpin. Then ill typically enjoy myself, but I have a great time when I get to spin for mature crowds. Then I get away with a lot of Old School, Rock and 80's mashups. House music is a good time with the right crowd also. Today's commercial music is getting worse and worse. So, anytime I can get away with mashups to keep things fresh it's a great party.
3. What and who are some of your major influences (artists, djs, etc.)?
Riz and Sizzahandz were definitely the first DJ's I saw/heard that made me step back for a second and ask myself "what the hell are they spinning and how come I dig it?" I was a bit too young to appreciate it at first but now I won't even bother going to see a DJ that doesn't spin a similar format. Their music selection is 2nd to none. Some other DJ's I follow are AM and Kid Capri mainly for skills on the Turntables.

4. Biggest reward about being a DJ?
Girls. there so friendly. (AHHHH COME ON Mo!!! You are SO HOLDING BACK!!! ;-)

5. Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?
Requests.
6. What is the best party you have ever spun at?
It's between Ashes and The Coliseum. Ashes is about a 25 and older crowd and this one party I turned the place upside down. I was playing the most off-the-wall tracks and they were feeling everyone one of them. The Coliseum is a younger crowd but this one party was full of girls and the energy level in the room was so high. I remember dropping this one track and every girl in the club screamed at once. They were so loud they drowned out the sound system and it gave me chills on my neck.
7. If you could mix at a club or party anywhere, where would it be and with whom?
The Casbah in Atlantic City. The crowd there is very mature and they expect the DJ to play tracks out of left field. Anything goes. No one comes to mind
that would make the party any more enjoyable.
8. In what cities have you spun? Are you a resident DJ at any clubs right now?
As far as big cities go I've spun in Manhattan and Philly a lot. I mostly do places near the suburbs and the shore but I look forward to traveling more often. Right now I'm a resident at Club Abyss and Ashes Lounge.

9. What is the hottest club you have ever been to, either as a DJ or a patron?
Definitely The Casbah. I hope I get to spin there one day.
10. Do you plan out your sets or do you play to the crowd's reactions?
Both. The party may be good when you just play to the crowd, but It's the rehearsed sets of 3, 4, 5 tracks together with some creative skills thrown in that makes the party great.
11. If you could design a club, name three important aspects of it's layout.
Social area, Well thought out Bar placement and an intelligent sound system.
12. Techno/Trance or Mash-up/Hip Hop
Mash-up/Hip Hop
13. East Coast or West Coast?
East (THESE VAULT BROTHERS SURE ARE TIGHT!!!)
14. MAC or PC?
PC
15. Top favorite 3 tracks of all time.
Franky - Fly me to the moon
Lost Boyz - Renee
G&R - November Rain
