"ATIMATIK ...for The People"

"For the people....and always...."

Armies, punk rock bands, pink hair, massive raves!! It's the stuff of legends! I truly believe that I am privy to a great unfolding within the life of a career!! His name is Tim...but you'd never guess it...because he is more of an Atimatik than you could imagine. He's about breakbeats, clean edges, hot pink, form, style, perfection in the name of achieving a higher state of musical awareness. DJ Atimatik is a unique soul and he doesn't conform to any one beat....EVER. He has always enjoyed the challenge of re-inventing himself time and and time again. His hair is a true testimony to that statement! He is what I would deem a, "true artist" and not only in the sense of using the turntable as his form of media expression, but he is also very aware of his presentation and he has worked very hard to market his DJ name. This name has been working it's magic on multiple levels for a while now because it's hard to keep exceptional talent hidden for long. Atimatik has been catching the attention of the power players in the industry and his most recent creative venture was an opportunity to work within a studio writing and producing a song with veterans of the the music industry, "breakbeat/electro producers, "Mephisto Odyssey" . It was such an amazing experience for Atimatik that he will be returning to the studio in the next few weeks to start working on his own independent musical creation under the "Atimatik" label. This DJ "Padawan" is ripe for stardom and his career is about to take off again and conquer yet another plateau in his life path!! We are thrilled at The Buzz to have this opportunity to sing his praises and draw your attention to this cosmic phenomena that is about to sky rocket across the music industry horizon. Atimatik's training has come through intense exposure and involvement within the San Francisco alternative underground music scene in the mid-90's. He had his initial experiences as a bassist in a SF Punk Rock group and occasionally when wooed, will indulge his fan base with a cameo flashback. However, for the most part he enjoys the challenge of keeping his sets fresh and current with the latest grinders hitting the hawtest of nightclubs. Atimatik has his trademark secrets and favorite sources to draw upon for inspiration, but he does utilize and support massive industry machines such as: Itunes, and Beatport. Both sites have his newest musical venture, "Sexy Love" for sale, released just this week. Atimatik's "playground" was a place where major forces that helped to shape and influence the House industry of the club scene dwelled and evolved. Greats such as Kaskade, Miguel Migs, and Mark Farina to name a few have all made massive quakes to the nightclub music scene and I believe it is because the tolerance level of difference and diversity is greater out on the West Coast. Atimatik is a testimony to that tolerance. He has continued to rise and his unique identity has been embraced enthusiastically by this portion of the States and continent. As a result of his alternative image and cutting edge appearance, he has been successful in his self-promotion and in his mass appearances, Atimatik is always a crowd favorite. As a result of the enthusiastic reception of Atimatik at large public gatherings such as: The Burning Man (http://www.burningman.com/whatisburningman/about_burningman/experience.html) and San Francisco Love Fest (http://www2.sflovefest.org/) his reputation and "momentum" has continued to pick up speed and his career is literally busting open at the seams right now and we couldn't be happier for him. This momentum has not been lost on Atimatik either and during the past summer of 07' he made the decision to launch an independent newsletter about his nightclub involvements and commitments and he called it, "Atimatik's Army". It's definitely worth signing up to receive if you are out in this area of CA. We have included an excerpt below from this month's Atimatik Army newsletter Vol 1.6, for you to check out. It's quit fascinating to get the scoop on Atimatik's perspective and to see where he chooses to throw his energy in terms of his career and musical development. Interestingly enough, this DJ's mantra is, "expect the unexpected" and Atimatik has truly committed his heart, soul and career to living exactly in this way. As urban and as stylish as this artist may be, he will catch you unaware and in the end he will leave you questioning your assumptions about not only him, but where your musical loyalties lie. The Atimatik Army IS coming and these converts will serve as a reminder that in order to thrive in a world where creativity dictates, complacency is dangerous. Don't fall asleep at the wheel or else you will miss out on seeing the plot thicken and the continual and fascinating metamorphosis of a great DJ who thrives upon pushing the envelope...DJ Atimatik...for the people!

BIO INFORMATION

Atimatik (pronounced like "autimatic") started his music career over a decade ago as a bassist for a Bay Area punk band. While on tour, he learned how to keep his audience energized by performing and learning from some of the most notorious punk acts.During the mid-90's, he experienced SF's underground electronic music scene and picked up his first pair of decks in 1996. Atimatik quickly picked up the art of DJing and began rocking house parties all across the Bay Area as word of mouth began to spread. Since then, Atimatik has been seen spinning at pre-eminent venues and parties all over the West Coast including the Opulent Temple Camp at Burning Man, Loveparade/Lovefest SF each year, Fahrenheit, 1015, Crash, Vivid, Temple, SupperClub, Angels, Groove Cruise LA & Miami, Mezzanine, Ruby Skye, Winter Music Conference and many others. Atimatik has also landed residencies at the number one West Coast venue, Ruby Skye, and nationally recognized Aura Nightclub. Atimatik has rocked parties with the best, such as: DJ Dan, Donald Glaude, Paul Oakenfold, Dylan Rhymes, D:Fuse, Terry Mullan, DJ AM, Z-Trip, Bassbin Twins, Crystal Method, Rogue Element, Gabriel & Dresden, Ferry Corsten, DJ Icey, Charles Feelgood, Bassnectar, and too many more to list. In 2005, Atimatik became, "Breakbeat Champion" on DJForums.com, winning the final round of a series of mix submissions that got put against other DJs in the same genre. In 2006, Atimatik became the top 14 DJ for the Nitevibe Dreamteam poll in the Bay Area (highest number of DJs per capita anywhere in the world). In November of 2007, breakbeat/electro veterans Mephisto Odyssey released, "Sexy Love" on Beatport and iTunes which featured Atimatik. Atimatik is currently working on his own releases that will be coming out on iTunes and Beaport in the coming months. Atimatik is one of the highest demanded House DJs in the Bay Area with a sound all his own. His sets are known for having big bass-lines on top of dirty House, Electro & Breaks which inevitably have the crowds throwing their hands in the air. Although, you can still find Atimatik playing bass, his primary project remains spinning in front of frantic crowds with his unique, floor pumping style.

THE VOICE OF ATIMATIK REGARDING THE SONG "SEXY LOVE":

"Let me talk about that. This is a song put out by local, veteran breakbeat/electro producers "Mephisto Odyssey". They were impressed by the momentum I have been building over the past couple of years and asked that I come in work with them on a song. Although, this was officially released under Mephisto Odyssey, I had a part in it's making and was even drawn in on the artwork (pictured 2nd from left)(attached). Just a couple of days ago the track was officially released on iTunes and is currently featured on Beatport (largest DJ music resource). Immediately following my Ruby Skye gig, I go back into the studio where I'll be releasing a track under my own alias (Atimatik) which will also be released on iTunes and Beatport."

THE BUZZ DJ SURVEY

1. What inspired you to pick your DJ your name?

I played for many years at a lot of house and underground parties simply as my first name "DJ Tim", but I wanted to have something more creative and fun than that. I also wanted to have some sort of continuity with my old name... My good friend and his girl came up with a 2 page long list with all these crazy names that incorporated "Tim". A-Tim-atik (like automatic) was one of them and for some odd reason I have gone by it ever since!
Okay.....But he DOES lead an Army, "Atimatik's Army"...So what do you expect!!?? It goes with the handle! Be warned, your senses WILL BE ASSAULTED and you will never be the same!!! His aim is deadly and sweet!

2. What kind of music do you like to spin?

I spin my own style of what I guess you could generalize as house. I look for music that is catchy and that have big basslines!

3. What and who are some of your major influences (artists, djs, etc.)?

I used to be in a punk band and that has definitely influenced my sound. Combine that with the sounds of my favorite local heroes like DJ Dan and Donald Glaude that I grew up listening to when the rave scene was big. Of course everything in my life influences my sound.

DJ Donald Glaude

4. Biggest reward about being a DJ?

Having the ability to make people have a good time. Let's face it, when the music sucks, it can put a damper on your night, but when it's good it can be magical. I have witnessed some of the best times in peoples lives and that is very fulfilling.

5. Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?

When you are clearly playing a specific sound and somebody requests some main stream song that they hear on the radio or MTV every single day. People should try to have an open mind and experience something special that is going on right in front of them. Also, the rare instances when you just aren't feeling it and you have an off night. It happens to even the very best DJs.

6. What is the best party you have ever spun at?

Oh man, so many good memories! I just got back from Burning Man playing on the hugest sound system in front of thousands of people, it was insane!! Oh yeah, at my birthday party at Ruby Skye last year playing in front of DJ Dan! That night was unbelievable; a packed house and everyone had the best time!

7. If you could mix at a club or party anywhere, where would it be and with whom?

Maybe some of the huge festivals they have in Europe... Lovefest coming up next week in SF has me pumped, I can't wait for that!

8. In what cities have you spun? Are you a resident DJ at any clubs right now?

I have played in Las Vegas, Cozumel Mexico, The Carribbean Sea on the Groove Cruise, Winter Music Conference in Miami. Los Angeles and of course SF! I currently have a residency at the #1 club on the West Coast, Ruby Skye, Aura and generally play all around the Bay Area.

9. What is the hottest club you have ever been to, either as a DJ or a patron?

That is a tough call... Surely some of the clubs in Miami or Las Vegas!

10. Do you plan out your sets or do you play to the crowd's reactions?

I try to play to the crowds reaction, but I have sort of mini sets I jump around with depending on how the night is going.

11. If you could design a club, name three important aspects of it's layout.

It must have at least two rooms with two different styles of music, so people have an option or just want to jump back and fourth between the two rooms. Secondly, the club MUST have slamming sound system with plenty of BASS! Thirdly, it must have a good atmosphere with exciting visual effects such as intelligent lighting.

12. Techno/Trance or Mash-up/Hip Hop

I basically play what I call 130 bpm... If it has that tempo and I like it, I'll figure out a way to mix it in. House, electro, breaks, they all get played during my sets. I strive to have my own style, so when people see me they know they are getting something unique.

13. East Coast or West Coast?

West Coast of course! Gotta represent!

14. MAC or PC?

Mac, more reliable.

15. Top favorite 3 tracks of all time.

That is just way too hard of a question, I prefer to pick artists that stick out in my mind which would be: Justice, The Plump DJs, & The Rogue Element

Keeping the "breakbeat" and a proud member of Atimatik's Army!!!
