DJ Serafin - His Mixes Are Potent And His Namesake Is Divine

With a middle name meaning a "Leader of Angels", it is no wonder that DJ Serafin has divine powers when it comes to the mixing board. He is a powerhouse in all of the DJ communities that he is affiliated with (see below) and you will always see his name at the top of the charts for creating some of the most sought after and hawtest remixes out there in the clubs of Hollywood! He labels his style as "multi-textured" and he constantly pushes the envelope in terms of his creativity...and it's brilliant! As it is already known about the LA club-goers...these folks have high standards when it comes to their DJ's of choice and why not? They have so many amazingly talented artists to choose from and so many DJ's aspire to work the club circa of Hollywood. We are most pleased to be able to share with you an intimate moment with DJ Serafin, as he gives us a glimpse into his personal world and he reveals a bit of the mystery behind the coolest of handles...Serafin. Super dark and sexy!!), DJ Serafin Goes To Africa, DJ Serafin Here Comes The Rain Again, Lost Without You, Serafin Crashing, Into The Fray Rendered and of course, Serafin's collaborative piece with DJ JD Gimme More B-More Extended Scratch Intro (I luv the piggy layover in the middle of mix...very appropriate!!) He's a DJ that has his finger on the pulse of cutting-edge technology and he is very proactive at promoting his name and churning out the hawtest of mash-ups. Where isn't DJ Serafin!!? DJ Serafin was recently performing and working at the 2008 CES Conference (http://www.cesweb.org/press/news/default.asp )in Las Vegas. This conference offers consumers the very edge of what's hot and new in the tech industry and how appropriate in my opinion that Serafin was there! Like I said, he's got his ear, "to the deck" and is always seeking to improve and enhance his product. He truly is an icon for what is current and the very best in the remixing/DJ industry! As we have seen with many of the most successful DJ's in previous articles, he pulls samples from all sources and enjoys the challenge of integrating unconventional pieces of music together and redefining WHAT is hawt in the club scene. He offers his followers and club patrons variety in the face of mainstream humdrum. He is a musician in his own right and he interprets music in a very personal way. Serafin is a master manipulator of the mixing board and he continuously tantalizes us with his superior integration of sound effects. Quality and supreme listener satisfaction are his primary goals it appears, after thoroughly sampling his work. He will settle for nothing less!! This is a DJ who is musically "well-read", in my opinion, and the list of artists who have helped to mold and shape this contemporary club masher truly reflect this quality. From Stevie Wonder to Jazzy Jeff, to old Blue Eyes himself Frank Sinatra....Could you get any more diverse in musical likes? It's a fantastic melange of "freestyle" sound that comes off of Serafin's turntable and in the end club-goers just can't get enough of this DJ's spontaneous creative genius!

1. What inspired you to pick your DJ your name?

It's my middle name..and it means - the leader of the angels

2. What kind of music do you like to spin?

Everything to anything..that makes the room go wild. ( 80's and house, and I'm a big freestyle fan )

3. What and who are some of your major influences (artists, djs, etc.)?

Q-bert, Jam Master Jay, Jazzy Jeff, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder

4. Biggest reward about being a DJ?

Make a difference, and giving people their party of a lifetime

5. Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?

People who demand their request, think they're the only one in the club...and stop using " its my birthday" to get your song played

6. What is the best party you have ever spun at?

So far Villa, for Maxim's Mag New Years 2008, and of course my saturdays ( just love my sat.)

7. If you could mix at a club or party anywhere, where would it be and with whom?

It would be somewhere at the beach in Thailand or Ibiza.. having Z Trip and Pete Tong open for me..hahaha.

8. In what cities have you spun? Are you a resident DJ at any clubs right now?

Orlando Florida, (House of Blues) Dallas, TX , Wish Ultralounge just to name a few...Residencies, Villa on Sun.,Mon.& Weds.-Friday @ Social Hollywood, and Saturdays @ Holly's West..and a monthly resident @ Karma Lounge ( Ventura county ).

9. What is the hottest club you have ever been to, either as a DJ or a patron?

Privilege, Area, Body English, Social, Holly's West, Karma Lounge...
I pretty much like all of them...exept the smelly ones..!

10. Do you plan out your sets or do you play to the crowd's reactions?

Always never plan your set..my mama said, " The crowd is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you gonna get" ...that was Forest Gump. For a guest spot maybe..( 15 min show )...why not! But for a 3 hours...I can't imagine any DJ that would.

11. If you could design a club, name three important aspects of it's layout.

First DO NOT hide the DJ booth..keep it as open to the floor as possible, and an aquarium dance floor..that lit up..all the lights would be coming from the floor not the ceiling , and .....mmmm
