"Greg J runs the record label Funky Cactus Recordings and has a couple of releases, including forthcoming remixes of DJ Shadow, but is always thought of as a DJ first. With over 10 years behind the decks, his experience has placed him in control of 2, 3, and even 4 turntables at events across the United States, as well as in Toronto, Paris, Madrid, and other cities around the world. In his hometown he is a local headliner, fortunate to have played at many incredible events with Run-DMC, De La Soul, Sugarhill Gang, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Grandmaster Flash, DJ Z-Trip, DJ Dan, Bad Boy Bill, Krafty Kuts, Dieselboy, Mixmaster Mike, DJ Rap, Goldie, DJ Q-Bert, Shortkut, Atomic Hooligan, Afrika Bambaataa, Charles Feelgood, and many others. Highly acclaimed by The Bassbin Twins, Greg has also been complimented by DJ's and fans from all across the world who know him as one of the best mixing DJ’s around. His latest mix CD titled Jet Set is a leader in DJ mix compilation sales on iTunes. He holds down a Friday night residency at Whisper, one of the largest and hottest clubs in San Francisco, and has also headlined at every other club that counts in San Francisco, including Ruby Skye, 1015, Mezzanine, Mighty, and Space 550. When you see him behind the decks, expect him to keep the crowd hype with seamless mixing, an incredible selection, and hyper skratching. Greg J keeps the party live and is one DJ not to miss.
Aside from what he does behind the decks, Greg is one of the very few DJ's who also holds it down on the dancefloor. You'll often find him in the spotlight on the floor, busting flashy moves and showing that some DJ's have just as much rhythm with their feet as they do working the floor with the turntables. If there's a circle at the party, unless he's on the decks you'll definitely see Greg in it.
Greg mashes it up, cutting & skratching live on the turntables, most Fridays at Whisper in San Francisco, which at a capacity of 800+ is one of the larger clubs in the city. Located at 535 Florida St.Greg is also a resident at Icon Ultra Lounge, which is one of the most upscale clubs in San Francisco. Get there early though, it reaches capacity quickly and you'll be waiting in line outside for quite awhile if you don't.Located at 1192 Folsom St.http://www.iconloungesf.com%20/
Greg is now also a resident at Fahrenheit Ultra Lounge in San Jose, an incredible club in an area that is now rivaling San Francisco and other great cities worldwide in terms of having great parties and clubs.@ 99 East San Fernando St.http://www.fultralounge.com/

DJ SURVEY
Here's a look into the world of DJ Greg J:
1. What inspired you to pick your DJ your name?
My DJ name is just my real name and last initial. I spent a decade DJ'ing at raves under another moniker, and it was always annoying to have people call me something else, so I decided to change it and keep it simple.
2. What kind of music do you like to spin?
All kinds of music. I also love to dance, so I tend to stick to playing anything that I'd want to shake my own ass to.
3. What and who are some of your major influences (artists, djs, etc.)?
DJ Q-Bert, Mixmaster Mike, DJ Craze, Jazzy Jeff, DJ Shadow, DJ Magic Mike, DJ AM, The Rocksteady Crew, Will Smith, Puff Daddy (I have the utmost respect for anyone who works hard to make something from nothing), there are so many incredible people I could go on and on ....
4. Biggest reward about being a DJ?
Helping people have fun.
5. Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?
Newbie DJ's who won't stop bugging me about giving them a few minutes on the decks during peak hour (fortunately this doesn't happen often). Unfortunately, one time I was bugged so much that I actually let this guy do it, and as expected, he did kill the party in a matter of seconds.
6. What is the best party you have ever spun at?
Planet Rock at the Homebase warehouse in Oakland in 1998. It was one of the last Invisibl Skratch Pikklz performances with DJ Q-Bert, Mixmaster Mike, and Shortkut together, Z-Trip & Radar played an awesome opening set of b-boy breaks, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien and Shock Gee (aka Humpty Hump .. but he didn't bring his nose with him) of Digital Underground just showed up so they could freestyle MC, I played on 4 turntables with Joey and then DJ Dan, and I even danced on stage while Sugarhill Gang was performing. A close second would be shortly after that, also at the Homebase warehouse, opening for Run-DMC.
7. If you could mix at a club or party anywhere, where would it be and with whom?
In Sao Paolo, Brasil, on the beach, with Fatman Scoop as my MC.
8. In what cities have you spun? Are you a resident DJ at any clubs right now?
Other than my favorite place to be, San Francisco and the Bay Area, I've played in LA at the Vanguard a few times, NYC, Paris, Madrid, Toronto, Vancouver, Chicago, San Diego, Washington DC, Baltimore, St. Louis, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Columbus, Sacramento, Reno, etc ..... all over the United States. I'm very fortunate and get to travel and play out of town gigs very frequently. I'm currently a resident at Blend, Fahrenheit, and Whisper.
9. What is the hottest club you have ever been to, either as a DJ or a patron?
Honestly, Ra in Las Vegas was my favorite club (they closed it last year to make room for LAX, which is opening soon). The sound was great, and the layout was set up so that you could always find a spot to dance, even it was all the way in the back. I also really like Rain in Las Vegas, but the chicken coop dancefloor in the center isn't my favorite. The hottest club I've ever DJ'ed at is probably a tie between The Vanguard in Los Angeles and El Mocambo (a rock club where The Rolling Stones have performed) in Toronto.
10. Do you plan out your sets or do you play to the crowd's reactions?
It's completely up to what I think the crowd is feeling.
11. If you could design a club, name three important aspects of it's layout.
Curves rather than corners, it keeps the crowd flowing and rotating to the bar easier. Sound that's focused on the dancefloor and away from the bar. A DJ booth that isn't the focus, but instead have a small stage area in front of the DJ booth, for dancers and MC's.
12. Techno/Trance or Mash-up/Hip Hop
Mash-up/Hip Hop
13. East Coast or West Coast?
All coasts.
14. MAC or PC?
I use both, but slightly prefer PC because it's more hands on. I can fix problems myself, and make upgrades. I also don't approve of Apple's current business ethics.
15. Top favorite 3 tracks of all time.
Incredible Bongo Band - ApacheJames Brown - Give It Up Or Turn It LooseAC/DC - Back In Black
