Mix Master Miguel Sets His Party Standards High While Maintaining His Unwavering Mission To Achieve Celebrity DJ Status

MIX MASTER MIGUEL

A deep desire and a drive for the ultimate success in his industry is the course that our next feature DJ has set for himself. We haven't encountered too many DJ's with such a strong vision and determination for such high personal achievement. DJ Mix Master Miguel has set the bar of success extremely high and he is not allowing anything to stop him from achieving his goals. From his early beginnings with music at the age of 3, this artist has been interacting extensively with the medium as a means of self-expression and internal development. Music has been an integral part of defining who this individual is and it has helped him to set the creative path of life that he has journeyed on for almost twenty years.

Mix Master Miguel possesses a rich perspective of the music industry as a result of his early career choices. He has also wisely rounded-out his resume of experience through involving himself in the many facets of the DJ profession. Mix Master Miguel has put in his time through his humble beginnings as a DJ spinning for family, friends, parties, schools, events etc. From this point he expanded his repertoire as industry folk started to sit up and take note of his exceptional abilities and sense of rhythm behind the turntable.

Miguel's immersion in mainstream music moved him to become increasingly more involved in the radio aspect of the business. "He was an avid listener to the mix shows on Wild 107, (which later became Wild 94.9.) This is when he realized that he wanted to learn the techniques of blending and mixing music... He worked for Wild 94.9 from 1998 to 2004. In 2003, he was chosen to compete in the Wild 94.9 Boo-Bomb open DJ battle. In 2004, he landed the job as the Wild 94.9 Dog House Morning Show Mixer. From 2006 to 2007, he was the mixer for Hot 97.7 Jamz on Sirius Satellite Radio. In 2008 Miguel, landed back on Sirius / XM radio with a mix show Friday and Saturday night from 6:00pm – 7:00pm called Mix-Master Radio." (Mix Master Miguel Bio).

In addition to his extensive marketing and exposure via the radio community, business-minded Miguel also launched a mobile disc jockey service under the name of Mix Master Studios in 1993. Never stopping to pause for long in his career development, this artist has stayed the course of his dreams and has continued to tackle new projects that would further his professional image and promote his name as a world-class turntablist.

So far in his career, he has produced many CDs and demos since 1997 as well as he has released two professional mainstream CDs called, “Music is Music Club Edition” and "Music is Music Back To The Club" (see album cover and track listing below). Miguel thrives on producing extremely high quality at all times and he is a very serious and dedicated artist when it comes to his work. That isn't to say that he lacks a sense of humor though! Miguel has an uncanny sense of appropriate timing in all aspects of his life.

Mix Master Miguel's vast knowledge of the industry has left him with a true sense of what makes an effective club and party atmosphere. He knows exactly how to create a jacked up party vibe, to the point of it almost being a science for him. According to Miguel, "A great party is a smooth party. Great people and good vibe’s. It is up to us, "the DJs" to make a party great. Because if a DJ is soft, the crowds gets bored and people end up leaving early, fighting, the customers do not drink too much. So the club/bar is not making money and the night feels un-happy.

A hardcore DJ makes the party crack. Happy people, no fights, people drinking having a good time and just mad love from the fans/club. I mean don't get me wrong, fights do happen a lot in the club world. However, from what I have noticed, when music is hot and people are dancing and having a good time from the DJ keeping them busy on the floor, less fights happen." (Mix Master Miguel Bio) Leaving a club with a satiated group of club-goers and a pleased owner, is of key importance to Miguel and he always sets this challenge for himself when he makes a gig commitment. In order to feel successful, it's imperative to this artist that his audience is riding the musical high of his turntable antics and he will settle for nothing less than pure party madness when he takes over the decks. It's all or nothing...there is no grey area for Miguel.

Miguel On His Odyssey Portable Decks! Nice Set-up!

The Buzz has had several opportunities to experience Mix Master Miguel live at Aura nightclub in California (one of many clubs on his resume) and he always puts down the hawtest tracks on the charts! Using his exceptional mixing talents, Miguel consistently keeps the dance floor filled to overflowing with party-jacked patrons. Everyone seems to adore his broad spectrum of genres used within his sets. He likes to use an "AM-esque" style of slammin' down the mixes. "Miguel embraces a great deal of expertise when it comes to mixing any genre of music such as: Hip Hop, Top 40, House, Latin House, Freestyle Bass, Dancehall, Reggaeton’, Old School, and today’s club favorite Mash-ups. " (Mix Master Miguel Bio)

Mix Master Miguel Focused In The Zone With Frankie Beats Givin' Props!

This DJ has a really well-developed sense of his crowd and he follows their reactions and chemistry closely during his gigs. Although he does have planned sets, he is experienced enough now to allow his creativity to flow and to feed the club-goers based on their hunger level!! Once he has a handle on their collective musical preferences, he seems to jack up the vibe with a flurry of mainstream smash hits mixed with retro and alternative tracks to appease the more musically savvy on the dance floor. Mix Master Miguel is a complete professional while holding down the helm in the DJ Booth (quite frequently he uses his own free-standing, portable Odyssey deck) and again he thrives upon the challenge of keeping the club patrons thirsting for more hawt tracks, while also refilling their beverages at the bar due to continuous dancing !!

It's probably safe to claim that everyone has dreams, but Mix Master Miguel is dreaming in 3D IMAX!! He is on a mission to achieve celebrity status as a DJ with goals as grandiose as participating in films or on TV, working with A-listers, and dropping sets for massive volumes peeps in global venues. It's an amazing but completely achievable task that Miguel has set for himself. In looking at his history, in combination with his intense level of dedication, Mix Master Miguel's determination is definitely a characteristic that is to be admired and an asset to his name. The key to his success appears to lie within Miguel's belief in himself and his deep commitment to spreading his passion for music to others in an almost prophetic manner. "Music is the true soul to life and without music we'd be dead... (Meaning boring)

From what I've been seeing with a lot of DJs is they don't give to the crowds/fans what they should, making the money that some of these guys are making. Rather making hundreds and or thousands, I promise to all business and fan base criteria that I will keep them all happy. In entertainment, we all know it’s a very hard thing to do. What makes me truly unique is that I guarantee as a DJ that I will be well-known and at a popularity level of a celebrity artist/musician....I work miracles on the turntables & always give the people what they want & then some!” (Mix Master Miguel Bio). A statement no better said then from this highly motivated and inspiring artist himself!

*What makes you unique as a DJ?

"First I'd like to say I bring as much heart and emotion / mode that I'm feeling at that giving time to my audience in my performances. Music is the true soul to life and without music we'd be dead... (Meaning boring) From what I've been seeing with a lot of DJs is they don't give to the crowds / fans what they should, making the money that some of these guys are making. Rather making hundreds and or thousands I promise to all business and fan base criteria that I will keep them all happy and in entertainment we all know it’s a very hard thing to do and what makes me truly unique is that I guarantee as a DJ I will be well known and at a popularity level of an artist / musician."

*What makes a great party?

"A great party is a smooth party. Great people and good vibe’s. It is up to us "the DJs" to make a party great. Because if a DJ is soft the crowds gets bored and people end up leaving early, fighting, the customers do not drink too much so the club / bar is not making money and the night feels unhappy. *What do you bring to a Celebrity or high profile event?

"I would say I bring on time performance, professionalism, creativity, a good music library, as well as a good look and high confidence. I work miracles on the turntables & always give the people what they want & then some!"

*What are your goals, immediate & longterm as a DJ?

"My goals are what some say are the impossible as a DJ because there is so much competition, but if people look at it all together there's not much competition cause half the DJs in the circuit are not looking for the "celebrity DJ" status. For me being a DJ since I was 9 years old and still present today of course I have always dreamed and seen myself as a celebrity and how the DJ market is today and us being the hot material right now in the entertainment club world, Celebrity DJ status is my full goal making good money and doing what I love and as well do best. I want to give to my fans and friends as much as possible from my heart and love of music. In my vision all together I see myself DJing major clubs nation wide, doing a movie or two, maybe even a reality show, and some other great ideas that I have and want to accomplish that I do not wish to share at this time due to haters who try to steal others great ideas."

DJ Mix Master Miguel Buzz Exclusive DJ Survey

1. What inspired you to pick your DJ your name?

Well as most know in the good ol DJ world the man him Self Mix Master Mike.... But behind the story Mix Master Miguel was delivered to me after all my friends callin me the Mix Master at age 13 / 14. My original name was just my last name DJ "Miguel". I then crafted the new callin of Mix Master Miguel from the nice sound, meaning , and one of my favorite scratch DJ's of all time Mix Master Mike...

2. What kind of music do you like to spin?

I pretty much like to spin everything and I try to make anything work in my sets. My new tag to my name is "Master Of All Genres".

3. What and who are some of your major influences (artists, djs, etc.)?

I'd have to say artist-wise: Ludacris, Jay-Z, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Usher, and a lot more. DJ-wise: Q-Bert, Mix Master Mike, Jazzy Jeff, DJ AM, and more. (BE SURE TO CHECK MIX MASTER MIGUEL'S SCHEDULE IN DECEMBER AS HE MIGHT BE OPENING FOR DJ AM AT AURA ON DECEMBER 20th!)

Mix Master Miguel Playin' 1on1 w Q Bert @ His Crib Fun

4. Biggest reward about being a DJ?

I think the DJ world has become a great achievement to all serious and hard working DJ's. We've been beat over and over again with the saying "DJ's will never take control and people always will go to a band rather then a DJ." LOL It's kinda funny now huh, cause us higher end DJ's were rockin' shows like concerts and now we're the one's,"in a good way", making huge impacts in the music industry now. We are now the full back bone for true good music. So, the true reward is how far us DJ's have come.

Mix Master Miguel, Fetty Be and Evil One at Aura, Pleasanton, CA

5. Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?

Hhmm pet peeve... Let's see, I'd say all the posers and people who are just buying turntables a mixer and some sound. Then they pick themselves up a Serato set-up and a full library of music off of Ebay for like $50 - $100. They then think, "I'm a DJ now." No No No LOL... DJing is a craft and mass production of technological talent. Beat-matching at least and music knowledge is an art...a music unto itself. Scratching is a plus, but not fully needed. These newcomers or DJ's of only 1 month - 2 years... "I am not bashing on you. I just wanna stress a lil' take the time to learn the heavy ins and outs. Knowledge is power and affects anything we do deeply as humans."

6. What is the best party you have ever spun at?

I've done a lot, but (no don't laugh people) my Homecoming dance in 1999-2000 year. Just the energy and hype I had through the whole night was ridiculous. I get a lot of that hype now in the club circuit, but that dance was bananas haha.

7. If you could mix at a club or party anywhere, where would it be and with whom?

Honestly, I've been wanting to spin with DJ AM for the longest time. I know he's out for a while recooperating, but I plan on doing a gig with him in the future. I honestly don't mind where it is, as long as there's a good amount of people and we can just do some tight and fun stuff on the decks...

8. In what cities have you spun? Are you a resident DJ at any clubs right now?

I have spun in almost the whole San Francisco Bay Area I'd say. Right now I had to pull back from the club scene, due to my uncle having lung cancer. He is pulling through with radiation and chemotherapy very well. He only has a couple more treatments to go, so I am hoping to be able to get back in to the groove soon and I am planning on making huge changes for my gigs as my 2009 New Year's resolution.

9. What is the hottest club you have ever been to, either as a DJ or a patron?

Well, being that I've mostly been in the Bay Area, I like Aura in Pleasanton and Vivid in San Jose, both in CA.

10. Do you plan out your sets or do you play to the crowd's reactions?

I base my sets on what energy I can feel from the crowd each night. Sometimes it can be the same style and sometimes it can be some weird crazy stuff haha.

Mix Master Miguel with Evil One At Aura

11. If you could design a club, name three important aspects of it's layout.

Attractable lights, good sound system, and good vibes from the staff.

12. Techno/Trance or Mash-up/Hip Hop

Mash-up / Hip Hop, but also Electro and Bass as well! LoL (Master of All Genres!)

13. East Coast or West Coast?

West Coast

14. MAC or PC?

Well, in my studio I run a PC and for DJing I have / use a Macbook Pro...
