Kon-Tempt is Insatiably Driven To Make Quality Remixes and To Bring The Hawtest Club Hits To DJs Around The Globe!

Kon: I "....was initially a recording artist, but I've since branched into everything and now my remixes have been featured on many of the major remix service sites such as: the former Remix Mafia, Dramamix, Yourremix, etc etc. That's over and above my actual physical releases of Vinyl, CD and DVD. Clubbangaz is a group very similar to the Crooklyn Clan, formerly working with AV8, and they've moved on to create their own label and "V Smooth and Serg Sniper" are very close to what you've heard and would expect from DJ Riz and DJ Sizzahandz in North America. I'm now an official member of The Clubbangaz as of March 07 and what one might consider a "UK Division" of them. I'm signed to a digital deal with them and they deserve much more limelight than they get. I can endorse that for sure. My own personal site started off as an info page for me as a artist, but quickly snowballed into become a fully stocked store as it is now. I picked up extra artists along the way from all over. Some you will no doubt recognise...Antix is a protege of mine and Big Al is a friend. We're all from surrounding cities in Scotland......
The common misconception about me is that I must be an American. I suppose when your signed to many of their labels, mixing for the Game and selling your material with Clinton Sparks to name but a few, there's bound to be confusion ( Can you tell I'm happy with myself ?). I have over 500 remixes in my personal library, so I figured that this would be a good starting place to get Fetty Be up and running and on all things Kon! Hahashoutouts to you and your family for the appreciation of this art form and I hope that you continue to enjoy the true professional creations that are out there. Very kind regards." (Fetty Be's Buzz, 2007)
With this breakdown by Kon-Tempt himself, you can appreciate how difficult it is to pigeon-hole him into any one area of the music industry. Kon appears to follow the cloth of many colors analogy or the bearer of many hats. He's been on both sides of the fence as a producer and a recording artist, as a DJ and remixer...a poet of music, and a soul rapper. He possesses a bird's eye view of the whole club scene...ground up. His level of understanding in this artistic realm is profound. His opinions are deep and ones that he defends with sound logic and practical reasoning. In appreciating more about Kon as we have interacted over the past months, I have discovered that his waters run deep and he is truly a purist when it comes to the industry. Kon-Tempt is NOT about flash and pomp and pageantry. As you can see, I had to struggle to come up with a few photographs of this artist despite the fact that according to his logic, the Internet should be flooded with interesting Kon facts! Get this man his own baseball card, will ya!! I digress...Kon just isn't interested in the showy portion of the business and he is NOT impressed with DJ's that talk big, but don't walk the talk. Here's what he had to say on multiple occasions about his views and standards in a very frank and personal dialogue and also about what motivates HIM to want to know more about a musical artist: "You've just gotta remember ma'am, that I'm not a DJ who works some clubs at night and sits around all day. I'm not even a Remixer DJ, who works at night and makes a few mixes during the day and tours now and again. I'm also working with rock bands, producing them, making original House songs, sound engineering Jazz vocalists and even writing and recording crazy European-style Urban songs for my own upcoming album.... " Kon-Tempt has a drive that rivals artists such as: Jason Nevins, Trevor Simpson, DJ Biggie, DJ Sizzahandz and DJ Riz of the Crooklyn Clan, DJ AM etc....He's a high caliber mixer and an artist who is intuitive when it comes to editing and refixing.Kon's natural ability has been with him a lifetime, starting with his joining Mensa at 6 and possessing exceptional spatial relationship awareness, color and texture sensitivity, through the visual arts in his mid-teens. Yet, the spark of fire for music that grew in Kon's belly also came at a young age and has since snowballed into a full-fledged avalanche of passion for music. Kon is so polished in his combinations and cutting now, due to his background and understanding of the nuts of bolts of remixing. To him it's about the intelligence of the combination. All musical genres are fair game for this versatile artist, with creative "statements" churning off of his boards using alternative ideas like mixing the theme song from the childhood mecca media hit, Thomas The Tank Engine! Mind you, the remix of this innocent catchy jingle is rather ghetto and raunchy in it's message, but it's proof and a testimony that when it comes to the intricacies of recreating music from the ground up, Kon-Tempt is not unlike a brain surgeon! His well-rounded experience has left him with rather high standards though and again, Kon has set the record straight on exactly where he stands with regards to his opinions about the remixing industry.
Kon: "I fully get all aspects of the art involved and that whole shebang. It's just I personally need a DJ to do more than just play a set of originals, mixing them together..... A step up is someone who makes the set become a "show" as u mentioned. Above that is a Remixer DJ and then above that is a Producer DJ. They are artists on both levels because they both create and display the sound-worlds they are known for. I respect and value DJs like the next man, but you gotta step your game up if you expect any form of admiration and if you are like so many of the DJs out there, i.e sitting until they do a show, have a set and then expecting the world to fall at your feet, it just isn't a connection there. You (Fetty Be) are intense about your art and culture and you vision the club world in such a fantastic way that it's nice, sadly the average club-goer is far far from that knowledgeable and switched on. They are at that club to party, the DJ will help that and then when the people leave they might say, "Hmmm he/she rocked it tonight".But mountains won't move, sea's wont part..... There needs to be more substance to an individual and his connection to the public than just playing records. That's not me being cruel to DJs, but again its a step your game war cry.For me its all about "take home art".... it's fine and dandy if someone does what they do at any said event, but if they don't have a viable product, something they have made, be it even a mixtape for example. The Guettas, Tiestos and Nevins that you mentioned aren't DJs who should be seen as Artists, they are Artists who DJ. All those guys have one thing in common, they are accomplished producers. Basically if they broke their hands and couldn't physically spin a record, their career is far from over. People flock from all over the world to see them due to the connection that is made on a higher level. They have done a lyric or a melody or something from scratch that just runs excitement and electricity through the minds of their consumers and fans. As for the bit about self promotion, again it's nothing to do with the fact a remixer is taking the credit and limelight, and so on and so forth, none of those things. I myself remix not only bootlegs, but I've had official remix work in forms of original commissions etc. So, I know just how much re-work, re-spin, re-art goes into a remix as well as anybody, but it doesn't change this very simple and logical fact......... When a comedian/actor performs/speaks on stage, he/she reveals his/her character somewhat. So, you think, hmmmm I want to know about them, what they believe in, their take on things......a painter or fashion designer can make their stories come to life through their art...their expression....I see some and I think, hmmm what kind of mind makes that crazy outfit...... singers, bands, rappers, producers etc. are all the same.... and even more so cause their stories and songs make me wonder about the person...My point is that with a remix, as much as their is a lot of creativity involved, it's more recreation than creation....... and personally for me, it doesn't fill me with huge impulse to know more about them, more because all the other things I mentioned are so out there and in your face. You get the choice clear from a distance to evaluate them and know what you'd like to know about them, if anything. However, when your art is faceless, of if you just spin records, you might be the most exciting person in the world, a true genius with a wealth of talent, or you might be a total and utter spinless boring prick..... my point was merely that you really can't tell ANYTHING about a DJ or remixer by their remix expression alone....
Eminem
Someone who puts Eminem over the Beatles, that only tells me he/she is creative, but then the remix told me that. I've never felt the need to learn all about them to just have the obvious stated to me...I understand things are changing, but it's like my friend said recently, the line for limelight is growing, but the talent is fewer. It maybe the facts that people's standards are dropping and you can pretty much do nothing and still be an idol, as reality TV has shown. Yet, I still get the right to highlight that I don't want hear anything about a person who doesn't interest me. Thea whole circus that is fame and performance art is merely there as an entertainment facility in one department and art for emotion in another department. I'm sorry but I just can't bow down to someone who is as average as my neighbour. There's no escapism in that, no spine chill... just basically a generation of people where admiration and success is handed out mindlessly or in a lottery luck system. I resent that. Interpretation is art, but in this case, way below the standard I feel is needed to justify an interest in a person. All some crazy out of key bootleg remix tells me about a human being is that they need to learn more music theory. Maybe it's just such a clinical process for me and I'm on the inside looking out, but I will always see artists who make their own music to be in a total different league from remixers. Since I've carved a niche at being one of these world remixers, that's not me being bitter or cruel or even a dick, that's just the facts.....A bootleg remix is good for the banter, some club energy and some personal entertainment..... and to some it can become their favourite song of all time. It's strange as it didn't actually exist officially, but you gotta look at it from this next point. Last month a guy I know from a distance approached me on the street. I'd heard through the gravevine that he had just buried his mother prematurely, she was like early 50s....I was about to send him my deepest regrets, but before I got a chance, he walked up with a tear in his eye and he shook my hand firmly with an intense stare and just kept saying thank you, thank you..... Then he just hugged me and walked away...I found out later from someone else that he choose my old song, "Flowers for the Dead" to play as the parting song to his mom at the funeral and felt that every single word was written for his mother. No that's true interpretation for me. That's a true connection and considering my definition of art is life, that's true art.... I'm not blowing my horn, but I'm showing you my perspective about these things and how they happen. I get drunk fans shaking my hand saying, "Awww man that mix was bangin, pure got oot my heed on some e's and it was intense" or I've got a man saying goodbye to his mom with my voice, my words, my story, my drums etc etc.....Now if I was at that funeral and had seen such a powerful statement, there's an artist that I want to know. I want interviews to read, websites, stories, pictures, I want part of that power....... If I'm in a club and someone plays a dance version of a rock song, brilliant. I'd shake the guy or girls hand for the good "refix"... but that's all it is, it will die a slow death and be forgotten. Even the best remixes rarely have the ability to chill the spine, unless it's an easily amused crowd who are fired up and assisted by drugs and alcohol. Anyway to recap, I just have high standards, my elitist sounding views are just due to the fact that I've earned my crust at this stuff. My point that I'll turn on Mr. Public to gain financial reward isn't a case of hypocritical shallowness.... There are many reasons why, but that isn't one of them.... It's pretty simple, if we are not advertising our self as a product, then we are just advertising our self for the sake of it. It's kind of corny at times, more often that not, and all of these guys have me cringing with their long winding spraffs about, "take overs" and how they are "changing the game".........DJs are the backbone of the music industry, but they will never be the heartbeat....Anyway I could talk for hours, but I'll leave you to digest this and hopefully you will see more of what I meant...... maybe my standards are just high!!" (Kon-Tempt to Fetty Be, May 2008).
Fellow V-Mixer with The Directorz....Scott Granger
To sum up this artist would be like dissecting one of his fine remixes or V-mixes that he does with his V-mix partner Scott Granger ( www.myspace.com/djscottgranger ), under the team name The Directorz. It's so complicated, but it all fits together and it works just like the pairing of Fedde Le Grand/ Ida Corr's "Let Me Think About It" vs. Wil. I Am's "I Got It From My Mama". Somehow it all fits together beautifully and this is somewhat of a summation of what Kon-Tempt is. He is the "jack of all trades" in the music industry and he is one who is able to get deep into the trenches of the club world, yet the next moment tweak a bass line until it melts beautifully into a transition springing forth the latest and hawtest new club track!! Kon can create just about anything. He even writes his own lyrics and can even sing his own songs! We've been kindly allowed to share Kon's very own fully mastered mix that he created from start to finish. When asked about it, he humbley reports that: "Don't Call My Phone" is my track.... all that you hear is little ol me being a "cheeky sod".... I'm glad you think it's funky. I've spent years trying to develop my sound to be a bit more universal than just a silly British novelty act ya know."
In addition to actual sound engineering, Kon-Tempt is also a philanthropist. As part of his remixing services that he offers to professional DJ's, he has also started a campaign to raise funds for charity. According to his website ( http://www.kontempt.co.uk/), several designated mixtapes were developed with the intention of funds that were raised from donations collected from the bidding of these remixes, would be used to help purchase several much needed ambulances in a third world nation. Here's the story: "LOOK OUT FOR NOT ONE, BUT THREE BRAND NEW KON-TEMPT MIXTAPES IN AID OF THE "BAMAKO BAMPOTS" CHARITY..... ALSO FANS IN EDINBURGH, MANCHESTER AND LONDON, LOOK OUT FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS ON KON-TEMPT LIVE EVENTS IN YOUR AREA IN AID OF THIS AMAZINGLY WORTHWHILE CAUSE... Steve (37) from Bolton and Dan (34) from Peterborough are two men who aim to spend 2008 making a difference to people who desperately need their help. Initially we had the idea of doing the Plymouth Banjoul rally but rather than buy a banger for 100 quid to be auctioned off to charity we decided to make a difference and help a local community to support itself. To this end we contacted the Mayor of Bamako through the rotary club. The Mayor was thankful for any aid we could provide and specifically requested any medical aid and ambulances to be used in the Koulikoro area of Mali. We resolved to provide them not with one but two fully functional and equipped ambulances suitable for the harsh African environment where they will be used to provide emergency aid to 49,000 people currently residing in the 220sq km area of Kalaban Coro currently without any vehicular or emergency aid. " Again, Kon bears yet another hat and continues to further his involvement on all levels with the public by now using his talents to serve others. We could go on and on about Kon-Tempt, however he seems to best articulate his own story and without further adieu...be sure to read his official Bio and also get a further glimpse into "ALL THAT IS KON" via his responses to the exclusive Fetty Be's Buzz DJ Survey!

The Buzz Exclusive DJ SURVEY Answers for Kon-Tempt
1. What inspired you to pick your DJ your name?

5. Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?
WHEN ANYONE THINKS YOUR "JUST A DJ". I JOINED MENSA AT 6 AND FAKED REMBRANDTS BY HIGHSCHOOL.... DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND SHOW SOME RESPECT. ALSO ANYONE BANGING INTO YOUR EQUIPMENT, MY VIDEO DJ PARTNER AND BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER "SCOTT GRANGER" ROCKS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE PIONEER DVJ 1000S, ANYONE USING THOSE AS A DRINKS COASTER BEST HAVE A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE FOR INSANITY.
6. What is the best party you have ever spun at?FUNNILY ENOUGH THE BEST PARTY I'VE EVER SPUN AT WASN'T THE MOST GLAMOROUS, AND WASN'T THE MOST CROWDED, BUT I HAD GOOD, LOYAL AND APPRECIATIVE PEOPLE ALL AROUND ME AND IT MADE IT THE MOST FULFILLING EVENT AS A DJ THUS FAR.
THE MOST NOTABLE EVENT WAS OUR DEBUT AS RESIDENTS IN LONDON'S WEST END, CLUB "24"... WE WALKED IN UNANNOUNCED AND UNDER THE RADAR, GRABBED THE BULL BY THE HORNS AND SLAUGHTERED THAT BEAST SOMETHING CRAZY... A GUESTSPOT TURNED INTO A OFFER OF FULL RESIDENCY, AND THIS PLACE IS AS EXCLUSIVE A SPOT AS ANY IN THE WORLD.

I'D GO TO ANY OF THE SUPERCLUBS OF IBIZA / AYIA NAPA ETC.....ENTER INTO A MASSIVE MASH BATTLE WITH THE BEST IN THE WORLD, BOB SINCLAIR CAN SPIN HIS ORIGINAL, I'LL PLAY MY MASH, FEDDE LE GRANDE CAN TAG IN, PLAY HIS HITS AND I'LL PLAY MY VERSIONS BESIDE IT, SO ON AND SO FORTH WITH EVERY NOTABLE DJ AND PRODUCER WHO PUTS OUT HOT MUSIC... CLUB 24, LONDON

Club 24/London
WITH OVER 500 PERSONAL REMIXES UNDER MY BELT, AND 18,000 OTHER REMIXES, MY SETS ARE ABOUT AS PREPPED AND ORGANISED AS THEY COME, BUT I'VE NEVER PLAYED A SET THAT I'VE PRE-PLANNED AS IN THE SONG CHOICE AND ORDER, UNLESS YOUR DOING A SET DMC ROUTINE, I FIND IT KIND OF CLAUSTROPHOBIC AND SAD.
1. SPACIOUS AND EXTREMELY WELL ORGANISED DJ BOOTH, WITH EVERY PIECE OF SOFTWARE, HARDWARE AND EQUIPMENT ANY STYLE OF DJ COULD POSSIBLY WANT. FROM YOUR RUN OF THE MILL VINYL TURNTABLE TO THE VIDEO GENIOUS OF THE PIONEER DVJ, WHETHER IT'S PURISTS OR DIGI DJS, I'D WANT IT ALL CATERED FOR.
2. VARIOUS ROOMS FOR DIFFERENT VIBES, SPECIALLY THEMED AND CO-DESIGNED BY PROFESSIONAL PYSCHOLOGISTS. IF WE WANT A FRENZIED RIOT, WE COULD GET IT, IF WE WANTED A 1000 PEOPLE CHILLIN TO CANDLE LIGHT AND SOME SLOW JAMS, WE COULD DO IT,. I THINK WALL TO WALL VIDEO AND LIGHT SCREENS COULD TRIGGER THE MIND CONTROL WE WOULD NEED.
3. THE STAFF, EXTREMELY WELL-TRAINED AND PROFESSIONAL.... SECURITY WOULD NEED TO BE MUCH MORE THAN JUST MUSCLE AND OUR BAR STAFF WOULD NEVER BE LEFT SHORT-STAFFED. I'D BASICALLY NEVER WANT TO SEE A QUEUE AT THE BAR.
HAS TO BE MASH UP / HIP-HOP. NOTHING SAYS WE CAN'T THEN MASH THAT WITH TECHNO AND TRANCE THO!!! :D
UK COAST ;)
SERIOUSLY THO, EAST COAST VOCALS, WEST COAST BEATS, CLICHE BUT ALWAYS TRUE.

14. MAC or PC?
PC! I KNOW MAC IS THE DADDY OF NON-CRASHES AND PRETTY GRAPHICS, BUT IT'S TOO NEAT AND TIDY AND UNFUNCTIONING FOR MY LIKING. GIVE ME THE UNPREDICTABILITY OF A FLAWED MICROSOFT OS ANYTIME!
MOST DJS CANT ANSWER THAT. ADD INTO THAT I'M AN ARTIST MYSELF WHO ALSO PRODUCES. IT'S AN IMPOSSIBLE TASK TO NARROW DOWN....
