World Renowned DJ, Remixer and Producer Joe Bermudez Delivers House Candy Via The America Dream!
Tuesday, June 2, 2009 Joe Bermudez is now a name that holds much weight and respect within the House music industry, as well as within the radio community and the world of the celebrity elite! Joe has been proactively fast-tracking his career up the famed ladder of success over the past decade, to a truly uncharted destination. On this climb, he has been ranked among the top DJ's not only within America, but also within the global music culture (http://www.djtimes.com/bestdj/top100.htm">). "In the DJ Times' 2008 list of America's top 50 DJs, Bermudez came in at no. 18, amid names like DJ Crème and the Cut Chemist." (cited from: http://www.joebermudez.com/press/LewistonSunJournal.html) The unusual aspect of Joe Bermudez's journey to this expansive recognition of talent, is that it wasn't a destiny that he set out to achieve! In fact, destiny came looking for Joe when he was bound for post secondary school film studies!! Not unlike a lighthouse beckoning through the fog to a wayward ship, a random act of passing a radio station and applying for a job in order to cover the rent...was the humble beginnings of this incredibly talented powerhouse of an artist.
"After high school graduation in 1994, Bermudez had been destined for film school at the University of Southern California. But that summer, before he packed his bags, he happened to drive past WKZS 99.9 in Auburn. "I was like, 'Oh, that would be fun,' and I just kept on driving. I was like, 'You know what, what do I have to lose?' I went back and demanded they hire me so I could pay my rent," Bermudez said. Station management laughed. They weren't looking for a DJ."I told them I just wanted a shot really, really badly. I would train myself. If there was any shred of hope, please, I could really use this. If not, I would understand. They were like, 'You know what, we're going to give you a shot.'"He skipped film school and worked his way up from overnight shifts as a board operator. Jobs in Boston and Portland followed. Eventually, Bermudez landed his first gig spinning in a night club in Atlanta."I guess I just kept harassing the promoter to do something and after a while, he finally gave in. He had always liked the music I was playing," Bermudez said. So, again, someone gave him a shot. It turned out, that's all it took. " (cited from: http://www.joebermudez.com/press/LewistonSunJournal.html)
Within his 32 years of living and growing up as a child in Lewiston, Maine, Joe made the first of many big life jumps, when he RADICALLY altered the course of his life impulsively choosing to pursue a career that he had no training for at a local radio station (WKZS 99.9). Well, Joe didn't maintain that beginner status for long and through much diligence and self-instruction, he worked up through the various roles at the station. He did so with so much momentum, that it wasn't long before he sky-rocketed into the club venues based on the hawt reputation he had built for himself in the regional music community. Yet taking all of this into consideration, we have to ask the question....Who has the bravado these days to do such an impulsive and free-flowing act of seeking a job with little to no experience, but promising the genuine commitment of sweat and effort to learn? THIS is a quality that we truly admire in Joe Bermudez and one that in our opinion sets him apart from the norm. He is not afraid to take risks, to try, to learn and to grow from his mistakes (which haven't been many!).

He has proven in JUST a short amount of time that the American Dream is still alive and you can build any dream if you have the commitment level to back the bravado. Hard work and endless hours of personal sacrifice are something Joe is not immune to either. Success was not handed to Joe on a silver platter. Even now with his fame and notoriety, he is always in the trenches with his peers giving every last bit of himself to all of the projects that he undertakes. His tenacity or "stick-with-it" ability has perpetually enabled Joe to keep himself locked within the radar range of success and even though he may think he "harassed" that first Atlanta Nightclub promoter into giving him a shot...again, it was likely that his lack of fear to actively pursue his goals enabled him to quickly attain the status that he has now built for himself. Joe certainly does not need to "harass" anyone anymore and in fact, he is SOUGHT after by some seriously major A-listers and performers to produce and remix original club traxs. He is becoming more and more known as "the Go-To-Guy" in the music production and club industry, as his traxs are so incredibly fresh and popular to fans of all walks of life and lifestyles!
Joe With The Lovely Hillary Duff
How could he NOT stay current-sounding, when celebrity vocal artists such as: Hillary Duff, Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Metro Station, Britney Spears, Pink and MSTRKRFT (to name a few), have all solicited or utilized his creative energies to help them develop hawt dance track interpretations of their mainstream pop songs!!? He is, "The Candy Man", who has proven that he can move with the greatest of ease from chillin' with A-listers like Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz at Pure, to hooking up with an old friend or two at a local club/watering hole called the Red Door in Portsmouth. Bermudez is versatility and tenacity packaged in human form and this adaptability is a characteristic that has taken him far! It's all about attitude peeps and Joe appears to have the right one and the key to the door called success!

Joe With The Amazing Kanye West
Of course, we are also a firm believer that those big brown eyes certainly help his cause!! This reference to his physical popularity with his fan base is actually noted in his Bio listed below. Perhaps there is more to the appeal of his big brown eyes. There is substance behind the surface...Throughout the interactions that we have had with Joe, he has remained very down to Earth, upbeat and humble. Fame has not filled his head with airs and so he reaches out in all directions to his fans, peers, and superiors. Again, it's Joe's versatility that sets him apart and it resonates through all that he does, as reiterated in his Bio. "A refreshing lack of pretense, and his willingness to cross genre boundaries has been hugely influential in Bermudez’ meteoric rise throughout the ranks of international DJs." (Joe Bermudez Bio)

JOE BERMUDEZ IN THE ZONE!
The ability to try new things and to experiment with sound has definitely fuelled Joe's interest in his original track production. Years in the radio industry were invaluable to Joe it seems, as it was there where he was exposed to mass volumes of listeners and where he quickly developed an ear for the sounds that were popular and most sought after. With this carefully crafted and swift ear, Joe was able to start creating his own original work which was received with great enthusiasm initially within the Gay community. His remix "Dreamer" was featured on the Gay Chicago Games 2006 album and it was extremely popular!! We can now state that according to his official Bio, Joe has "flocks of females swooning" over him wherever he goes!!
Joe actually confessed that "Dreamer (from Games) was the first record I ever purchased, so I was SO nervous doing that remix" (Joe Bermudez, 05-16-09) It's a true dance anthem and has done extremely well on Itunes and Beatport. Among Gay Chicago Games going way back into the Discogs, Joe produced Circuit Sessions 9: Hard Education and most recently Nervous Nitelife: Mass Movement, as well as countless remixes and now has done work for the Hannah Montana film with Miley Cyrus. With influences such as Darrin Friedman , Danny Tenaglia, Armin Van Buuren, Mark Knight, Kaskade, Martijn Ten Velden, Fedde Le Grande, and Dave Spoon, Joe Bermudez has been molded and shaped over the past 12 years, by some of the globes most innovative and talented House artists of this generation.
JOE AND THE MASS MOVEMENT CREW!

Despite a long-standing relationship within the radio industry, which currently includes his famed Mass Movement on Sirius XM, Joe is a huge advocate for keeping his foot one step off of the dance floor and immersed deep within the nightlife world. According to his Boston Herald Interview (12/2008), "The best part is the instant feedback. You can work all week long in the studio and think you have the best track ever, but when you put it on at a club, if people aren't feeling it, you know within seconds as they all walk off the dance floor. It's a great testing ground and helps me stay current-sounding."
DO WE NEED TO LABEL THIS? Tiesto and Joe!
The drive to keep fresh and to stay on top of the most current beats, motivates Joe to maintain a strong presence within both the radio and club communities. He understands that it is a symbiotic relationship and one truly feeds or fuels the other. With that said, his current baby is of course the satellite radio show Mass Movement. With all of the amazing industry connections and relationships that Joe has built, it's not surprising that MM is garnering alot of attention. "Mass Movement Radio (www.massmovementradio.com), showcases the hottest music spun by Joey himself, plus hot interviews with artists, DJs and more, including the Jonas Brothers, Hilary Duff, Crystal Method, Metro Station, Kelly Clarkson...Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Chris Lake and many more slated to stop by the radio show, Joe's MassMovement radio shows get bigger every week." Down-To-Earth Kelly Clarkson With Joe!
After sculpting our portrayal of this audio artist and getting to know the person behind the name, it's even more accurate to state: Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew, cover it with a choc'late beat and a kick drum or two? The Candy Man, oh the Candy Man can, The Candy Man can, 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world....or rather the dance floor taste good! Who is truly a candy maker to the stars you ask? We are also INCREDIBLY EXCITED to announce that Joe is JUST ABOUT to release another massive House club anthem that the critics are already labelling a smash summer beach side hit!!! The track name is "Armageddon" and it was officially commissioned alongside legendary Swedish remixer Stonebridge. Both producers hooked up with the brand new American Idol "Simon Cowell approved" L.A. artist Jessica Jarrell, who his ONLY 15. Armageddon is her debut track and we feel that it is a perfect example of JUST how talented Joe is. The original song is gospel-inspired according to Davis Ballard of In The Know PR. He also describes the gem as having mainstream appeal due to its, " dynamic beat and ear appealing string section which lends itself perfectly to any dance music aficionado's taste!" In many ways, it's reminiscent to Banarama's Look On The Floor (Pop version). Here's Joe take on it, "The Armageddon mix came out pretty cool. She (Jessica Jarrell) is a new artist from LA. She is only 15 years old. It's coming out on Mercury records (May 26/09) and was just serviced to the Billboard panel." (Joe Bermudez, 05/14/09)

Joe Bermudez is not like the average human being who might be content to sit and watch life pass him by. No, no, no!! Joe seizes life by the reigns and chooses the direction in which she will go, with him sitting atop guiding her towards new and undiscovered horizons. He is living proof that the "Candy Man" mixes it with love and makes the DANCE WORLD FEEL GOOD!!!

JOE BERMUDEZ OFFICIAL BIO
"Attention all passengers: Prepare for a wild landing. You’re about to enter the "Bermudez triangle."
This is where the melody hits your chest like a crashing wave, where the pulsing bass rocks your head like a hurricane, and where – get ready!- you’ll be lost forever in the sea of the dance floor.
Joe Bermudez is your guide on this head-trip, and he knows just where to take you. The Boston based international DJ has emerged as one of the hottest talents on the global club scene, a sonic triple threat that brings the goods: the sound, the look, and the (lack of) attitude. Whether he’s spinning live at clubs, remixing for the biggest names in music (Britney, Justin, Janet and just about anyone else you know by first name alone), or just sitting back and looking damn pretty, Bermudez has amassed a worldwide following for his seamless sets, pitch perfect productions, and willingness to play to the crowd: not his ego. "By starting in radio, I learned how to program music for the masses," explains Bermudez. At just 18 years old, on his own and without a paycheck, he was ballsy enough to walk into a local radio station and demand they hire him. Lucky for the rest of us, they listened.

And while he hasn’t left radio behind, today Joe is the one being pursued; he’s got a weekly, national show on XM satellite radio, for starters.
But most importantly, his introduction to the music world set his expectations high and his ear planted firmly to the floor. "By having a bigger audience from the start, I quickly learned how to keep a lot of people happy with what I play,” says Bermudez. “Even in my underground mixes, there's an element of pop that attracts people who normally wouldn't listen to the genre."
A refreshing lack of pretense, and his willingness to cross genre boundaries has been hugely influential in Bermudez’ meteoric rise throughout the ranks of international DJs. Most recently, he released Mass Movement, his first artist compilation album for Nervous Records. The album spotlighted his boundary-defying skills and diversity in Electro, House, and synthesized his ear for complex club jams with radio-friendly dance. The result was a smash album that earned Bermudez a 2007 International Dance Music Award (IDMA) nomination alongside Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk.

Indeed, 2007 was a major year for Joe: He was named one of the Top 20 DJs in the country by DJ Times (besting even legendary names like Junior Vasquez, Roger Sanchez and Felix da Housecat), and nominated for a second IDMA for Best Radio Mix Show DJ alongside Pete Tong. He’s also continued to churn out remixed and productions for major industry names, adding name upon name to his list of heavy-hitting clients.

RED CARPET JOE!
And then, of course, there are those baby brown eyes. Besides his killer club music, Bermudez' look and personality are also a big part of the attraction. Like the music he spins, the DJ is warm and approachable, high energy and always ready for a good time. Of course, it doesn't hurt that flocks of female fans (and hey, more than a few guys) swoon over Bermudez' physical attributes. Even a simple Google search turns up more than a few remarks of the "what a hottie!" "soooo cute" and "OMG I LIKE TOTALLY LUV HIM LOL" variety. Still, whether it’s his victories in the DJ booth or success with the ladies, Bermudez takes it all in stride. “It’s all about the music for me,” says Bermudez. “I love being able to see the world by spinning at clubs all over the globe. But all I need is a crowd that loves what I’m doing. To keep them moving all night long, that’s the greatest perk of all.” Perk up, baby. The audience is listening."

JOE BERMUDEZ'S RESPONSES TO FETTY BE'S BUZZ EXCLUSIVE DJ SURVEY!
1) What inspired you to pick your DJ name?
My DJ name is my real name. I have always liked my name and didn’t want something silly like DJ Squirrel Biscuit.
2) What kind of music do you like to spin?
I like music with energy. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s electro, progressive, ect. As long as it rocks the house I will work it into my set.

DJ Darrin Friedman Had A Huge Influence On Joe!
3) What and who are some of your major influences? (Artists, DJ’s, ect)
Darrin Friedman was the first club DJ that made me go WOW!!! I want to do this!!! Since then, DJ’s like Danny Tenaglia, Armin Van Buuren and Mark Knight have all influenced me.
4) Biggest reward about being a DJ?
Meeting SO many really nice people.
JOE AND JENNIFER LOVE-HEWITT
5) Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?
All the delayed flights and lost luggage.
6) What is the best party you have ever spun at?
There are so many good ones that it’s tough to narrow it down. Two that really stand out are New Year’s Day at Arq in Sydney and my birthday party at Living Room in Mexico City.
7) If you could mix at a club or a party anywhere, where would it be and with whom?
I would love to play at Creamfields. They always have such a good line up that it would be an honor to play alongside any of them.
8) In what cities have you spun? Are you a resident DJ at any clubs right now?
That’s a pretty long list. It might be easier to list the ones I haven’t played in yet. I travel so much that it’s hard to, but I do have regular stops in Boston, LA, etc.

TRYST NIGHTCLUB!!
9) What is the hottest club you have ever been to either as a DJ or a patron?
Tryst Nightclub in Vegas is pretty pimp. They have a 150 foot waterfall in the middle of the club. It’s not often you see that while you’re dancing.
10) Do you plan out your sets or play off the crowd’s reactions?
I always have certain records that I can’t wait to play, but it all depends on the crowd. Their energy dictates where the night goes.
DAVID GUETTA in a cool tee WITH JOE
11) If you could design a club, name three important aspects of its layout?
A friendly staff, clean sounding system and strong drinks.
12) Techno/Trance or Hip Hop/Mash Up?
It’s all about the house music!!!
DEADMAU5 WITH JOE AND GREG PIC!
13) East Coast or West Coast?
I was born in L.A., but live in Boston now and have mad love for both sides. I feel bad for State’s like Oklahoma with no coast line. They never get any shout outs…haha
14) Mac or PC?
I use both. The Mac is for my music and the PC is for all my admin stuff.
15) Top favorite 3 tracks of all time?
That is the hardest question to ask a DJ. We love music SO much that’s it’s really tough to narrow it down to just three songs.
Keeping it sweet with The Candy Man himself, the incredibly sweet Joe Bermudez!
