Taste the Spicy & Unorthodox Flavor of The Innovative Disco Fries!
Saturday, July 11, 2009
In times when we are super-saturated with the mundane and over-played in all aspects of culture, it’s so refreshing to encounter the extraordinary! The media in all its forms has mastered the art of over-exposure. Consequently, it has fostered a generation of de-sensitized consumers AND producers. Even in the nightclub industry this is a prevalent problem. DJ Z-Trip expressed his frustration recently on Twitter in a comment about an extremely generic DJ set he witnessed: “Seriously, what the hell happened out there people? Weren't DJ's supposed 2 take chances? We have the power! SO MANY SHEEP, so few superheros” (cited from: DJ Z-Trip Twitter http://twitter.com/ztrip ,06-18-09) The masses devour their super size fries barely tasting the salt, subsequently revealing the sad reality that quantity has now replaced quality in so many areas of society. Yet, in the midst of the bland and boring…now again originality struggles to the surface.

Spice and flavor jolts our taste buds back to life, giving us a glimpse of the beauty that quality has to offer in the midst of gross neutrality and volume. This is exactly the mission that our next Buzz feature DJ crew, The Disco Fries, has set for themselves. If you have ever been to New Jersey or to Quebec, Canada, you may already understand why these artists see themselves as above the norm and common place. The name Disco Fries is a term that, “ Originated in Canada (Poutine in Fr.) but was perfected in New Jersey. It’s a combination of brown gravy, mozzarella cheese and HOT crispy steak fries. It is the perfect end to a late night of binge drinking. Some of the best places to get them in NJ are Six Brothers or Tick Tock, but occasionally some random spot'll have em too. Oh and eating them with a large root beer on the side, there’s NOTHING like it! “Damn, I need some Disco Fries…other wise I'm gonna have a crazy hang over in the morning.”(cited from: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=disco%20fries)Disco Fries offer an alternative flavor to the mass produced and also a life-line in the club world to save people from succumbing to mediocrity-induced hangovers of unoriginal DJ sets!!

DJ Piklz & Danny Danger of The Disco Fries
The Disco Fries consist of a duo crew of DJ’s who collaborated in late 2007 and is comprised of DJ Piklz (Nicholas Ditri) and Danny Danger. As you will learn, these artists collectively bring a wealth of musical experience, education, and background to their current producer/remixer status. Piklz began his training at the very young age of 7 when his grandparents started him playing the piano. With exposure to the classics and traditional training as his backbone, by the age of 12 Piklz, was deeply involved with music to the point where the ability to DJ was like second nature to him. He took to it immediately and was soon being sought after for gigs. Danger & Piklz have been deeply involved with the industry for well over 10-15 years and each brought a wealth of personal musical experience to their collaboration. They have been profoundly influenced by the sounds of: "David Guetta, Benassi, Tiesto, Dirty South, Armin Van Burren, Armin Van Heldon, Dr. Dre, Laidback Luke, Deadmau5, Klaas, and Adam K to name a few. Benassi was really good live and any of the Crooklyn Clan/Crack4DJs guys always rock it." (Disco Fries Buzz Survey Versions 1 & 2 08/09) In terms of the team,Danny was more inclined from the beginning to produce music and Piklz would spin it. Yet, both individuals have now fleshed out their respective abilities via their musical studies at Berklee and on the road. Production and djing isn't the extent of their talents either. With a collective passion for creating unorthodox musical perspectives, they also started Arkatone Music Group Ltd. This is a music production, film scoring, sound design and music licensing company for film, TV and artists. This company was developed along with partner Will Forbes. Danny and Piklz then started The Disco Fries, doing remixes under Arkatone as an artist.

They can be found not only on globally recognized remixing services such as: Crooklyn Clan’s http://www.ratedh.net and http://www.crack4djs.net, but also in affiliation with AV8 Records, and their own Arkatone Music Group Ltd. As far as their current work, keep your radar targeted on their mix of Flo-Rida ft. Nelly Furtado due to be released by Atlantic next week!.... These boys aren’t messing around! They definitely have their eyes on the prize! In Japan their Boom Boom Pow remix with Manhattan Records, was recently the number one release!!! The Disco Fries have proven within a rather short duration of time, that quality is ultimately what drives true and lasting success. Industry giants are quickly taking notice of these radical producers who pride themselves on their ability to deliver something different...Whether it is a mash-up or an original production, the Disco Fries can offer a musical interpretation that is not unlike an impressionists painting. They possess the "trained ear" and the ability to produce original music and THAT is on parr with a true recording artist. Danger and Piklz have also built a wealth of industry connections from their years of training, which is now proving to be a huge advantage in the networking aspect of their career development. So from an outsiders perspective, it truly appears that these artists have carefully and methodically laid a solid foundation on which they can only move successfully upwards. In addition to the importance of the quality of the music that they produce, Disco Fries have also intuitively developed an acute awareness of the importance of audience satisfaction, in the djing portion of their work.

Disco Fries In The Studio
When asked if they prepare their sets in advance, Piklz responded, "We go into it with an idea of certain songs that will definitely work, but in the end the platform usually changes according to what the crowd might be feeling that particular night." and Danger stated, "I think you always gotta play off the crowd's reactions. A general idea of what you're trying to accomplish is important too, but being spontaneous is always a good thing." (Buzz Disco Fries DJ Survey Versions 1 and 2 08/09) The importance of advanced planning, networking, professionalism, anticipation, pro-actively seeking out opportunities, are all behaviors that the Disco Fries are not immune to and ones that they have relied upon thus far to expedite their climb up the industry ladder to recognition and success. We have definitely observed substantial growth in these artists since our initial contact with them. Their ability to learn quickly, in addition to their fast growing industry network connections and their mastery of so many different genres of music, have been the perfect recipe that has enabled Disco Fries to shoot to the top of their game. It's extremely impressive that 23-24 year old producers would be working together with an entertainment giant such as Disney, to include their work in a hawt new highly anticipated summer children's action movie. However, that in itself is a statement of how Disco Fries projects itself and it's work to the world. It's a flavor that is impossible to resist and they set their standard high!

They have recently produced a trax that is going to be the theme for the new Disney movie G-Force and is their next commissioned mix on deck from Atlantic. It’s scheduled to be released in just a few weeks. Until then though, you can should definitely sample the Disco Fries Sugar rmx that is posted on The Buzz MP3 player!! In fact, it was a supa hawt Buzz mix posted in Fetty Be’s May list!! You can also got to http://www.crack4djs.net to a vast number of their fresh and archive traxs.

DISCO FRIES BIO
"The Disco Fries, have today’s sound on lock.... A few of my biggest records here and abroad are from these guys!" - VIC LATINO - INTERNATIONAL RADIO/CLUB DJ
This electro-house duo stormed on the scene in late 2007 with a barrage of top selling digital remixes and original productions found on sites such as AV8Records.com, RatedH.net and the Crooklyn Clan label, Crack4Djs.net..
While attending school at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, the now 23-year-old producers began a start-up licensing & production company, Arkatone Music, with Los Angeles based composer Will Forbes. Having already licensed works to companies such as ESPN, MTV, and Comcast, the team continues to expand on their broad appeal.

Although the two have been on the scene for just over a year, the Disco Fries are quickly earning the respect of both fans and colleagues with their remixes of top artists such as Katy Perry, Danity Kane, Coldplay, and Usher. The duo's top selling releases through Crack4Djs/Crooklyn Clan and their collaborations have featured Fatman Scoop & Daft Punk, Reina (Robbins Entertainment), and Angelo Venuto (AM PM Entertainment) to name a few.
The Disco Fries are currently working on remixes commissioned by major labels like Atlantic and Bad Boy while assembling original productions for their first full length LP. Still in the early stages of development, the album will mark the first stage in the Disco Fries plan to seize the thrown of the music world."

THE DISCO FRIES BUZZ EXCLUSIVE DJ SURVEY ANSWERS!
1. What inspired you to pick your DJ your name?
Blue Swan diner in Jersey. We met up there one summer for some food and ordered some disco fries. Stuff is interesting....
2. What kind of music do you like to spin?
Electro, House, Bmore, Hip Hop
3. What and who are some of your major influences (artists, djs, etc.)?
Too many! As producers definitely Laidback Luke, Deadmau5, Klaas, Adam K, and David Guetta to name a few. Benassi was really good live and any of the Crooklyn Clan/Crack4DJs guys always rock it.
4. Biggest reward about being a Producer?
Seeing people's reactions to our tracks. That's what it's all about. Knowing that you made someone else's night better because of something you worked hard on.

5. Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?
Hard to say. Up to this point, Nick is the only one that DJ's really and I only produce. I think the usual...obnoxious requests, mobile gigs that run long, etc.
6. What is the best party you have ever spun at?
Summer party at the Ditri's (DJ Piklz). Every summer. Well worth a trip.
Disco Fries With DJ Xmind, DeToto and Fetty Be at the WMC 09 Crooklyn Clan Glass Forge Event
7. If you could mix at a club or party anywhere, where would it be and with whom?
It would be sweet to make a trip out west and do it up with Serafin, Holla, and the other Clan guys. Also, would love to do it up in CT with JD at Shrine.
8. In what cities have you spun? Are you a resident DJ at any clubs right now?
Nick's got a couple spots in NJ, but I can't remember where. We're hoping to get the live thing going more now that we've built a name for ourselves on the production end.
9. What is the hottest club you have ever been to, either as a DJ or a patron?
Our first year at WMC had some memorable spots (Mansion and Automatic Slim's were nuts) and the Estate in Boston was good too.

Mansion Night Club, Miami
10. Do you plan out your sets or do you play to the crowd's reactions?
I think you always gotta play off the crowd's reactions. A general idea of what you're trying to accomplish is important too but being spontaneous is always a good thing.
11. If you could design a club, name three important aspects of it's layout.
Hmm what makes a good spot? Sound system first and foremost I would think. We're there to have a good time, but if you're listening to speakers that are pushed to the limit all night its gonna get old. I guess that's all I got.

Club World Best Sound System Award Winner Body English Night Club, Las Vegas
12. Techno/Trance or Mash-up/Hip Hop
All of the above.
13. East Coast or West Coast?
Definite East Coast for both of us.

DJ Piklz
14. MAC or PC?
We try not to be, but we're both HUGE Mac snobs.
15. Top favorite 3 tracks of all time.
All time is tough and I couldn't answer that for both of us. Of the moment though I think the collab with Angello, Ingrosso, Axwell, and Laidback Luke "Leave the World Behind" is pretty huge. Heh Jersey Boy Nick would probably say something like Bon Jovi or Springsteen but that'd be a cheap shot. I guess we could both agree the Disco Fries got some decent stuff.
