As time passes and my network within the DJ community spreads and deepens, so too do my relationships with the artists that I have befriended along the way. Our next feature DJ just so happens to be one of these individuals who is more than just a Buzz affiliate, now he is a friend. Perhaps it is NVS’ personality that has enhanced this feeling. According to his profile and bio, this occurrence would seem consistent with what NVS appears to value – loyalty, respect, sincerity and keeping it real! In his Buzz Exclusive DJ Survey, you will see that he has no time for egos and rock star attitudes of new artists.

I actually found it very telling that NVS decided to use the Muppet characters on one of his mixtapes. As much as they stand apart from the crowd and don’t conform to the status quo, NVS like the eccentric Muppet characters, still desires to be an active part of all aspects of his professional community and social network. NVS remains true to himself, just as the characters do. His passion for his medium of self-expression is rich and when you review his bio, it is clear that he has swiftly moved through the majority of industry avenues including: underground, radio, commercial, production, corporate, media to club work. According to his Buzz Exclusive DJ Survey, the best venue that he has worked to date was “NYE 2008(into 2009) at the Dallas Palladium. I had the chance to DJ to a few thousand people.“ NVS has a thirst for understanding in his profession. He also possesses a drive to self-improve his own skill set via observation & pro-active participation. He is constantly seeking out opportunities to connect and learn from other artists within the music industry. Staying on top of his game is not an option for this DJ, it is the only way he spins it.

Yet, what strikes me as a major asset for DJ NVS, is his ability to be versatile. He has developed the maturity and savvy within his style at this point in his career, to be able to read the crowd and make their happiness his objective. “You have to play to the crowd. DJ's who plan sets are playing for themselves. Of course I have songs that I play together often, every DJ does. He was inspired by the power of radio and truly had his major career boost via this division of the DJ community. After spinning at local clubs and raves in Oxnard, CA, DJ NVS “then hooked up with the crew at KCSB Santa Barbara and got a bi-weekly spot on a show called, “The Groove” along with various guest spots at Q1047 in Ventura, CA. After mastering his radio persona, he followed the call of the club scene. He found the greatest reward of being a DJ was the“feeling I get when I drop a track and the whole place goes crazy. In analyzing the professional profile of DJ NVS, we feel that it illustrates an artist who is definitely a team player and one who has proven himself in a very competitive business. His drive to network and maintain good, symbiotic relationships within the DJ community, has definitely been key to his success. People who meet NVS, including The Buzz team, are drawn to his genuine and motivated nature. Of course some highly effective self-promotion and a keen ear for the freshest vibes, have also been instrumental in NVS’ swift climb up the industry status ladder! This is a dog eat dog biz and an artist is as good as his/her latest mixtape, trax, promotion, gig or alliance. DJ NVS’ years in radio have served him well in shaping his mentality and equipping him with a versatile nature to adapt as the nightlife scene has evolved over the years.In our opinion, NVS is the type of artist who continues to reach upwards for his professional mobility, yet he doesn’t forget to reach backwards at the same time, in order to do his part to give back to the community that nurtured him. Interestingly, he quoted one of his own idols, when asked what type of music he likes to spin, “Well, I'm a House head at heart. Originally from Oxnard, CA, DJ NVS got his start spinning local clubs and raves. Then hooked up with the crew at KCSB Santa Barbara and got a bi-weekly spot on a show called “The Groove” along with various guest spots at Q1047 in Ventura, CA. Shortly after he moved to Dallas, TX and hooked up with the DJs from KNON Energy 89.3fm. From there he met DJ Fishr Pryce and Ingtoo, and “Los Hip Hop Guys” was formed.

Soon after he hooked up with DJ Marvel, and with his unique style of blending multiple genres, quickly started rocking all the hottest clubs all over Dallas. He currently holds residencies at Ivy Lounge and along with DJ Marvel, fellow Instinct DJ crew member, holds down the hottest night at Dallas’ hottest spot, Dolce Ultra Lounge. DJ NVS’ most recent accomplishment was being accepted to be on world famous Crooklyn Clan’s “Crack4Djs.Net”. AND HE’S NOT STOPPING THERE!!!

1. What inspired you to pick your DJ your name?

It started as a joke.. one of my friends would say i was jealous, then it moved to "envious".. and that seemed to stick. so i just shortened it and went with NVS

2. What kind of music do you like to spin?

Well, I'm a house head at heart. i like most genres, but i think Armand Van Helden said it best when he said "House is my wife, Hip_Hop is my mistress. I love my wife, but still enjoy time with my mistress."

3. What and who are some of your major influences (artists, djs, etc.)?

Bad Boy Bill, Richard "Humpty" Vission (He will always be Humpty to me), DJ Enrie, along with all the mid 90s Power Mixers.

4. Biggest reward about being a DJ?

Well, I love the feeling I get when I drop a track and the whole place goes crazy. I like knowing I was part of the reason for people having a good time.

5. Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?

Well it's between dumb requests and new jack djs who come into the game with a superstar mentality.

6. What is the best party you have ever spun at?

NYE 2008(into 2009) at the Dallas Palladium. I had the chance to dj to a few thousand people.

7. If you could mix at a club or party anywhere, where would it be and with whom?

Ibiza or NY... with some of my old house idols. Armand Van Helden and DJ Sneak

8. In what cities have you spun? Are you a resident DJ at any clubs right now?

I have a residency at Carpe Diem in Dallas. I've DJ'd in a few cities.. LA, Miami, Vegas, Cincinnati, Hollywood, Denver, Portland....

9. What is the hottest club you have ever been to, either as a DJ or a patron?

So far, LAVO, its a really nice club. Plus, I got to go on a night DJ Vice was spinning..

10. Do you plan out your sets or do you play to the crowd's reactions?

I never plan sets. I tried doing that and i never seem to stick to it. You have to play to the crowd, dj's who plan sets are playing for themselves. Of course I have songs i play together often, live every dj does, but i never plan a         whole night

11. If you could design a club, name three important aspects of it's layout.

First, the booth has to be top of the line equipment and placed where no one would bother the DJ! Second, there has to be a dance floor. Third, plenty of restrooms and bars lol.

Well I'm originally from CA, so WEST SIDE FOR LIFE!!! haha
