Deejay O Prooves His Habit Changed His GAME FOREVER!

5450_746398150061_10008707_46550830_2602563_n

The variation in artist personalities that we have featured on The Buzz is definitely as broad as nature’s spectrum. Each individual has possessed their own unique story, path and motivation for choosing a career in the music industry. We have definitely highlighted similar patterns in personal stories and character influences that have played a role in shaping or defining the people that choose to pursue music with an endless thirst for more. For our next artist, his interest in music was something that grew steady from his youth and out of what he labeled as a “habit” or hobby. “I grew up loving music and was exposed to many genres. My knowledge of classic music is vast, and I have a keen ear for new hot sounds. As a youth, and increasingly more every year into my twenties, enjoying music became a habit. I fell in love with the habit, and now the marriage is magic! These events (and a few details in between) have helped create the D.J. and M.C. that is "Deejay O" (first name Orlando).” (cited from Deejay O’s MySpace Page: http://www.myspace.com/deejayomusic)

DeeJayO-1

For any artist to describe their career as a “marriage” is one that is truly committed to pursuing the profession on a serious level. In fact, Deejay O’s dedication appears to have quickened his rise in the business. This individual has also brought another talent to the table, in addition to his keen sense of mixing the freshest beats on the charts. Deejay O was blessed with a voice and a voice that has been classified as MC worthy. The progression of O’s career has been rather rapid, as he gained access to greater networks, where the word quickly spread that this artist was multi-faceted!! He could not ONLY drop a wicked set, but he could keep the party alive with his vocal hype. Quite often in the DJ community, the talent of spinning, beat matching, mixing, mashing, and weaving a magical music tapestry, is all that his necessary to keep the club vibe hopping. However, it’s ALWAYS a benefit if the artist has an outgoing personality to accompany the turntable skill set. We’ve highlighted time and again the importance of the flow of energy or vibe between the DJ and dance floor. If there is no life behind the decks, there appears to be a direct correlation to what’s happening out in the crowd. If the DJ (or a promoter) is excited and giving off upbeat “party” vibes, then this mood seems to transcend outwards and leaves the house feeling satiated with positive emotions.

Deejay O possesses this unique capacity and characteristic to keep his patrons elevated WITH him on his soundscape voyages. He has been recruited specifically for this purpose by groups and agencies such as  SWAT, who require artists with this highly valued ability to bring high energy to the decks and PARTY! Deejay O is a perfect example of how a passion can ignite at any point in a person’s life and if that passion is strong enough to accompany the drive, the sky’s the limit! In our Buzz exclusive DJ Survey, it is clear just how radical O’s progression has been since his career took off in the early 2000’s. Networking with agencies like SWAT and holding a residency with them, truly opened new channels and connections for this artist.

SWAT PROMOTERS!

Deejay O describes his involvement with SWAT and explains what it is: “SWAT is the West Coast leader in college student travel.  Each year they have events and trips for students nationwide, but their base is in Southern California. They run the largest college snowboarding trip on the West Coast every year, and also 4-6 weeks of college spring break events in places like Mexico, Las Vegas and Lake Havasu.  I have held a residency with SWAT since 2003.  Myself and DJ Loczi (the other SWAT resident headliner) have also booked entertainment with SWAT.  SWAT's trips and events have featured artists like Naughty By Nature, Black Eyed Peas, Ying Yang Twins, Three 6 Mafia, LMFAO, Warren G, E-40 and great DJ's like DJ AM, DJ Scene, DJ Icy Ice, DJ Vice, The Rock-it! Scientists, DJ Spryte, DJ Echo, Eric Cubiche, DJ Deception, DJ Jay E, DJ Shift, Donald Glaude and many others!”

DJ Loczi and Deejay O

He has been influenced and worked along side some of the world’s best and most accomplished DJ’s as noted in his professional history. This artist’s ability to swiftly adapt his style to the needs of the clients, club culture and venue has also been a key factor to his success in this very competitive industry. Deejay O is a people pleaser and according to him, will always place the needs of his audience before his own. This aspect of his personality really struck us as being another essential element in explaining why O has risen so quickly within the industry. This DJ values self-sacrifice and is quite happy setting aside his personal needs in order to ensure the crowds, promoters & club owners are MORE than satisfied. “I enjoy playing music that the crowd feels more so than the music I like. A lot of DJ's get that twisted and only play for themselves.  I do that when I'm at home, but when I'm playin’ in a club, I play for the crowd.“ (cited from Deejay O’s Buzz Exclusive DJ Survey) O has maintained this commitment to his followers and has continued to surround himself with other artists who possess similar drive, dedication and professionalism in the nightlife industry.

DJ SCENE

He has chosen his mentors carefully, being positively influenced by successful individuals such as: “DJ Scene, DJ Spryte, DJ Vice, DJ Loczi, DJ Deception, DJ Jay E, DJ Costik, DJ R, The Rock-it! Scientists....these are guys who have performed all around the world and are also good people.  Each of these guys has done something that I have tried to emulate at one point or another. Not on the swagger jacking tip either...I've watched and learned from these guys over the years.  I won't let myself be influenced much by big-headed artists with big ego's. I'm not impressed by hot shots with attitudes.  The late great DJ AM was another big influence. Ever since he made the mash-up genre pop off, I have respected that man a ton.  It’s no small task to (almost) single-handedly make a new genre go mainstream! That’s so crazy to me...nothing but respect for that man!” (cited from Deejay O’s Buzz Exclusive DJ Survey).

am_rip06[1]

Respect for the DJ culture and for the legitimate skill set that is required to throw down a perfectly executed party vibe is important to Deejay O. As already noted, he has no time for “Hot shot DJ's with attitudes, and most recently newbie DJ's who come into the game sideways and don't respect the culture. I have so much respect for guys who enter the game with respect, the motivation to learn the right way and to practice like we all did.  It’s so easy to buy the gear and give yourself a DJ name now without actually having any skills!” (cited from Deejay O’s Buzz Exclusive DJ Survey). Elbow grease, respect and industry awareness have been critical ingredients to O’s success. His talent is evidenced by the fact that the college crowd can’t get enough of his beats.

n502132692_28510_196

DEEJAY O & HIS FELLOW SWAT PATRONS!

This is an elite group of party people that demand non-stop, uptempo energy for long durations of time! This is the exact type of vibe that O likes to create and spin, according to his Buzz survey. Deejay O’s personality truly contains the perfect combination of outgoing energy and drive to continuously better himself through networking with the cream of the DJ community. Re-evaluating his own skill set, the art of practice and striving to improve his mastery of the DJ profession, are primary objectives for Deejay O’s career development. He doesn’t stray too far from the grindstone by choice and as a result, has taken a fast track to the upper echelons of the business. That is not to say Deejay O doesn’t party….He parties WITH A PURPOSE!

Always seeking new opportunities, O embraces challenges that come his way. Deejay O is a genuine soul from what his Buzz survey responses tell us and he is most definitely focused on always giving his best, no matter what the undertaking! Please take a moment to review his official biography and make sure to hit him up on all of his networking sites for his performance schedule, current projects or just to befriend this amazing, talented artist!

Deejay O’s Official Bio

It wasn’t ideal to start a DJ career in Scottsdale, Arizona being locked behind walls that lacked culture, but Deejay O’s drive to succeed allowed him to always focus on a much bigger picture. Shortly after picking up his pair of Technic 1200’s in summer of 2002, he began to DJ at local venue’s and was able to attract the social core of Arizona State University’s roaring party scene.

n22703500771_1373647_2083160

Refusing to be limited, he used his network to expand the Deejay O brand outside of AZ. Two years into his career, when most DJ’s are still practicing in their bedrooms, Deejay O had played at clubs in areas like Las Vegas, Reno, San Diego, Hollywood, Nor Cal, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Tempe, and also over 20 times internationally! Receiving a more broadened exposure from events out of state, word about his talent as an up and coming DJ/Party M.C. seemed to travel. Soon, in 2005, he packed up and headed to California where he continued to unfold the reach of the Deejay O brand.

angels

He has proven that he can seamlessly mix genre’s of music together creating a mix of Hip Hop, Rock, 80’s, Top 40, Old School, R&B, Funk, House, Electro, Pop and more. His sets are also highlighted with original productions and remixes of his own that many other world class DJ’s also use during their own sets! He also uses his unique vocal abilities as spotlight worthy M.C., whether or not he is touching the turntables. His talent behind the microphone has complimented International DJ’s like DJ AM, DJ Vice, DJ Scene, The Rock-it! Scientists, DJ Icey Ice, DJ Spryte, Eric Cubiche, DJ Deception, DJ Jay E, DJ Echo, DJ Skee and DJ Turbulence to name a few. He has been sought out, by some of these and other acclaimed DJ’s and producers, to record customized vocals and ‘drops’ for them, which they use in their live shows and productions of their own. He has a residency with SWAT!

DEEJAY O’S BUZZ EXCLUSIVE DJ SURVEY RESPONSES!

deejayologoelectric

1. What inspired you to pick your DJ your name?

Easy...my Gub’ment name starts with an “O”.

2. What kind of music do you like to spin?

Uptempo stuff mostly.  I enjoy playing music that the crowd feels more so than music I like.  A lot of DJ’s get that twisted and play for themselves.  I do that when I’m at home, but when I’m playin’ in a club I play for the crowd.

3. What and who are some of your major influences (artists, djs, etc.)?

People that I know who influence me are cats like: DJ Scene, DJ Spryte, DJ Vice, DJ Loczi, DJ Deception, DJ Jay E, DJ Costik, DJ R, The Rock-it! Scientists....these are guys who have performed all around the world and are also good people.  Each of these guys has done something that I have tried to emulate at one point or another.  Not on the swagger jacking tip either...I’ve watched and learned from these guys over the years.  I won’t let myself be influenced much by big-headed artists w inflated ego’s.  I’m not impressed by hot shots with attitudes.  The late great DJ AM was another big influence.  Ever since he made the mash-up genre pop off, I have respected that man a ton.  It’s no small task to (almost) single-handedly make a new genre go mainstream!   That’s so crazy to me...nothing but respect for that man!

Deejay O is NOT ONLY a DJ, he’s an amazing MC too!!

4. Biggest reward about being a DJ?

The music is already a reward, and being able to play for crowds and share that is a huge blessing in itself.  Being able to make a living doing that is just simply amazing and the biggest blessing of all!  But, when I’m able to play music that allows club goers to enjoy themselves, that is when I feel most rewarded!

DJ Santa

NOT everyone should be a DJ….respect the art!

5. Biggest pet peeve about being a DJ?

Hot shot DJ’s with attitudes, and most recently newbie DJ’s who come in the game sideways and don’t respect the culture. I have so much respect for guys who enter the game with respect and a the motivation to learn the right way and practice like we all did.  Its so easy to buy the gear and give yourself a DJ name now without actually having any skills!

6. What is the best party you have ever spun at?

One of the SWAT Spring Break events in Mexico hands down!!   They are always dope but there are a few nights in particular that stand out.

DJ Loczi & Deejay O At Their SWAT Residency!

7. If you could mix at a club or party anywhere, where would it be and with whom?

Probably one of the sick mega clubs in Europe.  I don’t care who I played with...I just want to be able to say I did that when its all said and done.  That’s the dream right there!

8. In what cities have you spun? Are you a resident DJ at any clubs right now?

I have played in Scottsdale, Orange County, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Las Vegas, Reno, Salt Lake City, Denver, St Louis, South Texas, Dallas, Sacramento, Lake Tahoe, Hollywood and many smaller cities in between. As for my residencies you can find me in Orange County weekly (Tues), SWAT residency next month in Reno followed by Lake Havasu during the spring.  My Arizona summer residency ended in August.  I’m currently working on another monthly residency out of state as well (stay tuned)!  Past residencies include Sutra (Mak Fridays), Silk @ Pechanga Casino, Chronic Cantina, Basement (Denver) and Club Vibe and 360 @ Morongo Casino (last spring break), Papas & Beer (Rosarito Mex), Rockodile & Beachcomber (San Felipe, Mex) and SWAT 72 in Reno.

9. What is the hottest club you have ever been to, either as a DJ or a patron?

Currently I would have to say Xs in Vegas....that place is so bangin!!! (Fetty Be: ME TOO O!!)

IMG_0068

10. Do you plan out your sets or do you play to the crowd’s reactions?

I don’t plan sets really.  There are some songs that I like to play together often, but I won’t plan a whole set that way.  You can never really be sure what the crowd will be feeling ahead of time, so I go with what I feel when I’m there in the moment.

11. If you could design a club, name three important aspects of it’s layout.

A sick booth with amazingly loud monitors, no narrow walkways that get jammed up, a booth in front of the dance floor, but protected from would be song requesters.

12. Techno/Trance or Mash-up/Hip Hop

Hip Hop or House
